Châteauguay will be hosting the third running race - Au rythme de nos foulées – on the 13th of May.
Between 1,000 and 1,300 runners will be expected for the event organised by Patrick Cool, a runner who’s very much involved in the region. “Last year, in spite of a rainy day, 982 people participated in the races”, Mr. Cool revealed.
Five races will be featured during the day: 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, and 10 km or the demi-marathon of 21.1 km. “The demi-marathon run will be along the Châteauguay River, from Sainte-Martine to Châteauguay, passing through Mercier”, the organiser explained.
Moreover, children who wish to participate in the event will be offered a 1-km run which will be planned especially for them; each young runner will be receiving a participation medal.
For Mr. Cool, organising a running day came naturally. “Creating a race day in my birth place was a dream for me. I have participated in several marathons in my life and I find that this sport is one of the most accessible to all”, he admitted.
Whether they’re 4 years old or 75 years old, people just have to put on a pair of running shoes to participate. It’s a great way to promote the benefits of physical exercise in the region”, Mr. Cool explained.
Runners who wish to register have until May 11 to do so by visiting the lesriverains.ca site
