On June 21 the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Beauharnois-Salaberry inaugurated its seventh stop for those who use its bicycle path.
This stop, geographically positioned in the centre of the town of Beauharnois, is located between stops in the villages of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzage and the centrale de Beauharnois. It is also possible to access the location by a section located in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois.
"It is a pleasure to welcome you to this stop because it was built alongside a long history of transportation," said Claude Haineault, Mayor of Beauharnois. "It is a meeting place with the theme of travel in different eras. The two structures present are a reminder of the crossroads of our region," said Linda Phaneuf, Executive Director of the RCM.Bike patrol
The rest stop for travelers will be regularly inspected by a team of 34 bicycle patrols already present on the network. The members of this team walk along the Beauharnois-Salaberry bike path network a minimum of three hours per week. They are trained to help visitors with flat tires and light mechanical problems, but they also have training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to make the pathway safe.
"We are cycling enthusiasts and we set our own limits. By walking, we inspect the route and report defects to keep conditions in the best possible state," says Marie Sauvé, a Valleyfield resident and member of the bike patrol.A total of $153 million in investments
