The third edition of the island’s Éco-marché should be attracting more than 5,000 visitors this year according to organisers. This great eco-responsible event will take place on the 25th and 26th of August on the island of Saint-Bernard.

Last year, the event was cut short by Hurricane Irene which caused much damage to the island. The organisers are confident that this year, they can expect good weather to grace the event.

Access to the site is free and will welcome more than 50 exhibitors selling their artisanal and ecological products. Moreover, about 15 exhibitors from the region’s food industry will be offering their locally grown products.

Ecological shuttle

To avoid overcrowding of vehicles on Saint-Bernard, and to offer visitors a green alternative route, Héritage Saint-Bernard has set up a shuttle service offered free by Véolia Transdev.

The shuttle will go back and forth between the AMT’s commuter parking lot on Saint-Jean Baptiste Boulevard and Saint Bernard Island. It can accommodate 40 people at a time and places for baby carriages will be provided.

“Organising a shuttle service is an example of the types of services provided by Héritage Saint-Bernard to reduce the use of cars. It’s an added value to an ecologically responsible event”, said Châteauguay Mayor Nathalie Simon, during a press briefing announcing the 2012 edition of Éco-marché.

Varied cultural programming

Singer Caracol will be the featured star of this event and will give a show on Saturday at 3:00 pm, bringing together the songs from her recent albums. In the evening at 6:00 pm, Châteauguay singer André Gagné will take his turn and will lead a party at La Traite bistro.

All through the weekend, the Quatuor Montréal Classique (Montreal Classic Quartet) will offer a varied repertory of rich and unique sounds. On Sunday, a percussion show will entertain the crowd; the Temps Antan troop will also inspire visitors to dance to Quebec’s traditional tunes. The weekend will also offer yoga workshops outdoors which should make people move and shake their bodies!

Important partners

To create such a weekend, Héritage Saint-Bernard had to rally its important partners to organise the event. In addition to Véolia Transdev providing the shuttle service, the City of Châteauguay, MNA Pierre Moreau, the RCM of Roussillon, the Caisse Desjardins of Châteauguay, the Polydium sports centre, and the Promotions du Grand Châteauguay should also be mentioned as important partners.

In addition, the organisation this year will partner with the Châteauguay Express.ca to publish and transmit relevant information. “We’re very lucky to be a local partner of Héritage Saint-Bernard. We’re going to offer visibility throughout Quebec and enable people to participate in an ecologically responsible event”, said Stéphane Vinet, regional director of TC Média newspapers in the Montérégie region.
