The community is invited to participate in the many activities surrounding the Chenail cycling for hope sports challenge.
A group of cyclists will travel about 250 km for the Chenail roule pour l’espoir (cycling for hope) event to benefit the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir (Governor’s Hope Foundation). In order to support this challenge, the public is invited to encourage the athletes as well as participate in the many activities surrounding the event.
Firstly, the departure of the cyclists will take place at 8 a.m. on July 7 at the Saint-Rémi Arena. The organizing committee hopes that many people will come out and see the athletes as they start out.
The cyclists arrival in Granby is scheduled between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. that afternoon. Then, a festive evening is organized in order to congratulate the athletes who will be at the midway point of the challenge. The next day, July 8, is designated as a family day to encourage cyclists who are returning to Saint-Rémi. From 1:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., activities are planned at the Saint-Rémi Arena.
Face-painting for children, a magician, refreshments, snacks, beer and wine are on the menu for the day. In addition, a registration kiosk for the 2013 Chenail cycling for hope challenge as well as a booth for the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir will be on site.
The highlight of the day will take place around 3 p.m., when parents and children are invited together, to participate in the Chenail cycle for hope mini-challenge. "It's a one and half kilometre bike ride for the whole family. The event is for all participants, without any performance challenge," said Daniel Légaré, a member of the organizing committee.
Around 4 p.m., all participants will be on hand for the arrival of those cyclists, from Saint-Rémi to Granby, who pedaled for the cause. The evening will close with a barbeque of hot dogs, chips, drinks and all in a festive and family atmosphere.
